CHESTER, W.Va. (AP) - The chief organizer of Chester’s Fourth of July festival faces charges of embezzling from the event’s committee.

The Weirton Daily Times r(https://bit.ly/1n8na4n ) eports that David Nurmi is accused of withdrawing $2,250 from the committee’s bank account for his own use. The money was taken in varying amounts on nine separate occasions in 2013.

The 71-year-old Chester resident is charged with nine felony counts of embezzlement.

Nurmi says there was a miscommunication regarding the allocation of funds. He says he has documentation that the funds were properly spent for the committee’s Fourth of July activities.
