LOS ANGELES (AP) - The former owner of a Los Angeles medical equipment company has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison for submitting nearly $25 million in bogus Medicare bills.
Federal prosecutors say 46-year-old Susanna Artsruni had workers at several Los Angeles medical clinics sign orders for medically unnecessary equipment and tests - some of which were never even provided.
She was sentenced Monday to 76 months in prison by a federal judge after pleading guilty earlier this year to health care fraud and money laundering.
Medicare paid her nearly $10 million on the fraudulent bills. As part of the sentence, Artsruni was ordered to repay the money.
