Utah police are questioning the mother and her family members to try and determine how the bodies of seven babies could have been stuck inside cardboard boxes and placed in their garage over the past decade without anyone noticing.

Megan Huntsman, 39, has been accused of killing the babies shortly after she gave birth, The Associated Press reported. She was charged Sunday with several counts of murder at the Utah County Jail for what investigators say occurred between 1996 and 2006.

But police don’t understand how the killings and the concealment of the bodies could have occurred without anybody — including her husband — noticing, AP said.

Her estranged husband found the skeletons of the babies while clearing the garage. Police don’t suspect him of any involvement.

“We don’t believe he had any knowledge of the situation,” said Police Capt. Michael Roberts, in the AP report. When asked how he couldn’t have known, Capt. Roberts answered: “That’s the million-dollar question. Amazing.”
