NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture says its rural development program is lending $7.1 million to a New Orleans sausage maker and $1.3 million to a Bunkie senior care company.
Lillian Salerno, administrator of the USDA Rural Business-Cooperative Services, is scheduled to meet on Monday with owners of Chisesi Brothers Meat Packing Co. It’s getting a loan to buy, process, package, and sell meats and other food items made mostly in Louisiana. According to the USDA news release, the money is expected to save 86 jobs and create 10 new ones.
On Tuesday, she’s to tour the Central Louisiana Business Incubator in Alexandria. There, she will meet with officials of Sylvia’s Caring Companions Health Services, which provides personal care services to disabled and elderly residents. The USDA says the loan will help save 201 jobs and provide start-up money for St. Edwards Funeral Home in Bunkie. The funeral home is expected to create four jobs when completed.
