TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A manager for several Tucson restaurants who has acknowledged employing immigrants who aren’t in the country legally has pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge.
Christopher Mark Evenson pleaded guilty Friday in federal court for his conduct as a manager for Chuy’s Mesquite Broiler restaurants in Tucson.
He admitted hiring people who weren’t in the country legally, paying them under the table and failing to report their earnings to the Internal Revenue Service.
Fifteen Chuy’s locations in Arizona and California were raided in April 2011 as part of the case.
Charges were filed against Evenson’s father, but were dismissed after he was found mentally unfit to stand trial.
Accountant Diane Ingrid Strehlow was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to a charge of conspiracy to impede and impair the IRS’ functions.
