DETROIT (AP) - A steeple atop a Detroit Catholic school has been toppled by strong winds that swept across the city and state.
The Detroit Free Press reports (https://on.freep.com/1eHaj18 ) that the steeple on Loyola High School fell Monday morning to the ground and came to rest alongside the building.
No one was injured.
School volunteer Crystal Lee Davidson tells the newspaper that the roof suffered minimal damage.
About 285,000 homes and businesses across the state lost power after high winds began whipping across parts of Michigan Saturday.
Detroit-based DTE Energy Co. said about 80,000 of its 150,000 affected customers were offline Monday afternoon. Jackson-based CMS Energy Corp. said 23,000 of its 135,000 affected customers remained offline Monday.
