WINDHAM, Maine (AP) - A sheriff says a Maine man who was shot and killed by a deputy had pointed a gun at someone.
Cumberland County Sheriff Kevin Joyce told the Portland Press Herald (https://bit.ly/1hFyJOd ) on Monday that Deputy Nicholas Mangino fired two shots after 66-year-old Steven McKenney raised and pointed his gun early Saturday in Windham.
Police say Mangino and two Windham officers tried several times to get McKenney to drop the gun.
An autopsy Sunday showed McKenney died of a gunshot wound to the head.
McKenney’s wife had called police to say her husband was suicidal. Mangino is on leave while the Maine attorney general’s office investigates the shooting.
