QUINCY, Ill. (AP) - A group in Great Britain plans to erect a memorial to the 11 people who died during a military plane crash just after the end of World War II, including a man from Quincy.
Karen Brown is part of a group in Braintree in England planning the monument. She told The Quincy Herald-Whig (https://bit.ly/1nmCaca ) that the monument will list the names of the 11 killed and tell the story.
Sgt. Jerome Geers was a Quincy native who was aboard one of the two B-17 bombers that collided over Braintree on May 10, 1945. He was 24.
The planes were flying two days after World War II ended. One cut the other in half. All of those aboard the damaged plane died while the other landed safely.
