TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - Officials want to transfer Terre Haute airport property to the Indiana highway department to help create a new entrance to an Air National Guard base.
Leaders of the Terre Haute International Airport have asked the Federal Aviation Administration to change about 6 acres of airport property to non-aeronautical use and allow them to transfer the land to the state highway department.
In exchange, the highway department would transfer about 2 acres to the airport. The Tribune-Star reports (https://bit.ly/ORuTF9 ) the 6 acres would allow construction of a new road coming off a roundabout on Indiana 42.
The new road would serve as a new entrance to the Indiana Air National Guard base at the airport.
The FAA will accept public comments on the land swap until May 5.
