Syrian President Bashar Assad said Hezbollah has made a huge difference in fighting off the rebel forces battling his government, and the tide of the civil war that’s raged nearly three years in the country seems to be turning in his favor.
The conflict’s hit a “turning point,” he said, Reuters reported. And it’s looking as if the July elections will see Mr. Assad re-elected — a stark contrast from last year, when the beleaguered leader looked like he was on his way out, political analysts said.
Mr. Assad, in a recent address to students and staff at Damascus University, said that media is now portraying him as confident and in control. The new characterization comes as Hezbollah fighters who have been helping the government have recaptured several strongholds and shut down several supply routes relied upon by rebel forces.
