ATLANTA (AP) - A Georgia state senator plans to propose renaming a metro Atlanta highway interchange after a reporter who kept watch over local roads for decades.
Republican state Sen. Mike Dugan of Carrollton says he plans to pre-file legislation for the 2015 session to rename the Georgia Interstate 85-Georgia 400 interchange after “Captain” Herb Emory, a WSB traffic reporter who died of a heart attack over the weekend at the age of 61. Authorities have said Emory was helping at the scene of a car crash when he had a heart attack.
Dugan called Emory a “highly respected and philanthropic citizen of Douglas County,” who dedicated time to several charitable causes. Dugan says renaming the interchange in his honor will ensure that his legacy is remembered by drivers he guided every day.
