LA CROSSE, Kan. (AP) - Students at La Crosse High School in western Kansas won’t have class Monday as workers clean up from a fire that forced the school to move its prom.
The prom went on as scheduled Saturday night, after students and residents quickly redecorated the parish center at St. Michael’s Church.
The Wichita Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/1kXkiTR ) school principal Kathy Keeley says the fire was started by a floodlight that was left on after students decorated the gymnasium Friday night. The gym was empty when the fire was discovered about 4 a.m. Saturday.
Classes will resume Tuesday but it will be another two weeks before the gym and auditorium can be used.
La Crosse is about 25 miles south of Hays. It has 45 students in middle school and 82 in high school.
