HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. (AP) - Amtrak says it has joined with state and federal agencies to conduct an engineering study of the Susquehanna River Rail Bridge for possible rehabilitation or replacement.
The railroad said in a news release Monday that the Maryland Department of Transportation and the Federal Railroad Administration have launched the study of the 108-year-old bridge. Amtrak owns the bridge.
The bridge, which is more than 4,100 feet long, has two tracks and links Havre de Grave in Harford County and Perryville in Cecil County. It is used by Amtrak, MARC Commuter Rail passenger trains and Norfolk Southern Railway.
Preliminary work is being funded by a $22 million federal grant from the Railroad Administration.
The study is expected to be complete in mid-2017.
