LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Cotton’s campaign on Monday said he’s raised more than $1.35 million in the first three months of the year in his bid to unseat Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor of Arkansas this fall.
Cotton’s campaign on Monday said he will report raising more than $4.8 million since announcing last year he would challenge Pryor. The campaign did not say how much money Cotton would report having on hand for his bid. Cotton said he was humbled by the support he’s seen since entering the race in August.
“Arkansans are ready for a Senator who will put our interests before President Obama’s partisan agenda,” Cotton said in a statement released by his campaign.
The Arkansas Senate race is one of the most closely watched and expensive in the nation, with outside groups spending millions on television ads blanketing the state. Neither Pryor not Cotton face any opposition in the May 20 primary.
Pryor, the only Democratic member of the state’s congressional delegation, was first elected in 2002 and re-elected in 2008 without a Republican opponent. Cotton was elected in 2012 to represent south Arkansas’ 4th Congressional District.
Pryor’s fundraising numbers were not available Monday. Tuesday is the deadline to file fundraising reports with the Federal Election Commission.
