COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A central Ohio coroner says a 35-year-old man died in a fire in his apartment.

The Columbus Dispatch (https://bit.ly/Q60pAh ) reports that the Michael Lamar Jackson was killed Sunday when fire swept through the kitchen of his apartment on the east side of Columbus, according to Franklin County Coroner Jan Gorniak.

Firefighters rescued Jackson from the apartment’s kitchen at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday. Columbus fire Battalion Chief Tracy Smith said firefighters tried to rescue revive him outside the apartment, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the blaze, which did not spread outside the apartment. They think it was accidental.
