The head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said Sunday that while President Obama’s approval ratings are in the dumps, there is no reason to panic about November’s mid-term elections.

“We’re running against a Republican congress who job approval ratings are a fraction of that,” Rep. Steve Israel, New York Democrat, told CNN’s State of the Union.

Still, polls show that Republican are far more excited to vote in this year’s mid-term elections. Democrats are unlikely to retake the House, and could lose the Senate if vulnerable members in right-leaning states fall to GOP challengers.

Mr. Israel said his party is more focused on passing immigration reform than the upcoming election, but his Republican counterpart said the GOP is the side that’s working for the American people.

Rep. Greg Walden of Oregon, told CNN that his party is being rebuffed at every turn, from investigations into political targeting at the IRS and the 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya, to a number of job-growth bills passed on a bipartisan basis in the House, only to see them die in the Democrat-run Senate.
