WINDHAM, Maine (AP) - Authorities have identified the sheriff’s deputy who shot and killed a man in Windham, Maine.

The Cumberland County sheriff’s office said Sunday that the officer involved was Deputy Nicholas Mangino, who has been on the job for nearly two years.

Mangino is accused of shooting and killing 66-year-old Steven McKenney early Saturday morning after he refused to drop a gun outside his home. McKenney’s wife had called police to say her husband was suicidal. Police say Mangino and two Windham officers tried several times to get McKenney to drop the gun before Mangino fired two shots.

The Maine attorney general’s office is investigating.
