LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - Liberty University plans to open a new Center for Music & the Worship Arts in 2015.

The 144,-square-foot building will house a 1,600-seat fine arts auditorium, two student recital halls and classrooms, practice rooms, teaching studios, and piano, songwriting and music computer labs.

Liberty officials broke ground for the project on Friday. It’s part of the Lynchburg school’s $500 million campus rebuilding phase.

Liberty says in a news release that the building’s educational wing is scheduled to be completed by the 2015 fall semester. The auditorium is expected to open later that semester.
