SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Jean Sayres of Shreveport has been honored as Louisiana preservationist of the year.
The Times reports (https://bit.ly/1k8wAtX) she was cited recently at the 2014 Louisiana Culture Awards.
Lt. Gov. Dardenne will formally present the award to Sayres on April 22 at the Culture Connection in Baton Rouge.
Among attendees will be Shreveport historian Lane Callaway, chairman of the Shreveport Historic Preservation Commission.
City Councilman Jeff Everson and historian Gary Joiner were among those who endorsed Sayre for the honor.
“Her passion for and knowledge of preservation are unrivaled and inspiring,” Everson wrote, noting Sayres’ work with local entities to preserve and protect historic properties and sites in Shreveport “have resulted in millions of dollars in investment coming into the historic core of our city.”
Everson also said Sayres has been instrumental in directing attention to notable architectural works in Shreveport, such as International Style buildings designed by the late architect Sam Weiner.
