CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A new exhibit in Charleston explores the connections between the city, Fort Sumter and “Gone with the Wind” Actress Alicia Rhett.

Rhett, who died earlier this year at the age of 98, was a Charleston artist who played the role of India Wilkes in the 1939 film starring Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable. It was Rhett’s only film role.

An exhibit opening on Sunday at the Fort Sumter Visitor Center in downtown Charleston focuses on Rhett, her family history in Charleston and their ties to Fort Sumter.

The exhibit features items from the collections of Fort Sumter and the Charleston Museum as well as the Dock Street Theatre and the South Carolina Historical Society.

The exhibit is expected to be on display through the middle of July.
