FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Coconino County officials are urging residents to register with a new emergency notification system.
Coconino County Emergency Management announced Saturday the testing of a new and free alert service called CodeRED.
Officials say CodeRED lets residents and business owners know about any time-sensitive emergency situations that are ongoing or imminent.
County Emergency Manager Robert Rowley says the need to be part of the system is made more evident in the wake of the wildfire that has been burning south of Flagstaff since Friday afternoon.
Officials say the system uses more phone lines than the old Ready Coconino system and runs faster.
A street address is required so that the recipients get location-specific notifications.
County managers say those enrolled in Ready Coconino will have their information transferred to CodeRED.
