LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - University of Wyoming professor Mohammad Piri has been appointed to a prestigious endowed professorship at UW.

Piri was recently named the Wyoming Excellence Chair in Petroleum Engineering, recognizing his global acclaim and impact on the Wyoming economy.

Piri is an international leader in the study of the flow of fluid underground.

UW School of Energy Resources Director Mark Northam says Piri leads a large team of graduate students doing innovative research into how certain fluids behave in oil and gas reservoirs.

Northam says the research holds the promise of significantly higher oil and gas recovery from both conventional and unconventional reservoirs.

Piri heads the Hess Digital Rock Physics Laboratory at UW.
