GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Three teens are suing imprisoned ex-Major League Baseball player Chad Curtis and the school district where he volunteered when they were sexually assaulted.

MLive.com reports (https://bit.ly/1sSbjc6 ) a lawsuit filed in federal court in Grand Rapids alleges battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress by Curtis. It claims Lakewood Public Schools took no independent action to investigate the allegations when they surfaced.

Prosecutors said the girls - then ages 15 and 16 - were sexually assaulted in 2012 when Curtis worked as a volunteer weight-room strength trainer at a Barry County high school.

Curtis was sentenced in October to seven to 15 years in prison on a conviction of criminal sexual conduct.

Curtis played for the Detroit Tigers and five other teams between 1992 and 2001.
