HONOLULU (AP) - A national report ranks Honolulu first among major U.S. cities for the amount of solar energy systems installed per capita.

Environment America’s report released Friday also ranks Honolulu fifth in the nation for total solar capacity.

Honolulu spokesman Jesse Broder Van Dyke says the ranking is for all of Oahu.

Mayor Kirk Caldwell calls the study great news for Honolulu as the island strives to transition to a green, sustainable energy system.

Hawaii has among the highest electricity prices in the nation because most of the state’s fuel must be imported.
