WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - New Wake Forest coach Danny Manning says he’s keeping Randolph Childress as one of his assistants.

Manning announced Saturday night that he will retain Childress from Jeff Bzdelik’s staff.

Manning says he “thought it was important to have someone who is familiar” with the school, its players and the recruiting areas and called Childress “one of the best and most beloved players” in program history.

Childress, the 1995 ACC tournament MVP, made a school-record 329 3-pointers and his 2,208 career points rank second only to Dickie Hemric.

He was Bzdelik’s director of player development in 2012-13 and last year was promoted to assistant coach.
