HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) - Hutchinson has been awarded a $400,000 grant for housing rehabilitation.

Gov. Sam Brownback informed the city by letter recently it’s been awarded the $400,000 Community Development Block Grant. The award is contingent on the state receiving money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Hutchinson Housing Program Manager Irene Hart says the state had to wait 60 days to confirm how much money it would receive before informing six cities getting the grants. Hart says she thinks there’ll be enough money to rehabilitate about 18 homes, based on an expected average of about $24,000 per house.

The Hutchinson News reports (https://bit.ly/Q1JvTw ) to be eligible, the home owner-occupant cannot have income exceeding 80 percent of the area median income, which would be about $44,150 for a family of four.
