Rush Limbaugh, conservative talk show giant, said CBS has just made a massive cultural statement that sets traditional, heartland America in its sights by hiring comedian Stephen Colbert as David Letterman’s “Late Show” replacement.
“No longer is comedy going to be a covert assault on traditional American values, conservatives,” he said, during his Thursday broadcast. “Now it’s just wide out in the open. … CBS has just declared war on the heartland of America.”
He went on, The Blaze reported: “What this hire means is a redefinition of what is ’funny’ and a redefinition of what is comedy, and they’re blowing up the 11:30 format under the guise that the world’s changing, and people don’t want the kind of comedy that Carson gave us, or even Letterman.”
Mr. Colbert’s brand of comedy is a far cry from the tactful humor and gracious jabs of comedians of years past, he suggested. That CBS has hired Mr. Colbert is tantamount to a “declaration” and a “planting of a flag” that the new direction of the “Late Show” will be “partisan” and headed by a “so-called comedian” with a particular political ideology, Mr. Limbaugh said, The Blaze reported.
“So that’s what I think,” he finished. “Cool. Fine. Satisfied? Good.”
