PHOENIX (AP) - An Interstate 10 rest area in the desert west of Phoenix is being closed for an extended period for renovations.

The state Department of Transportation says the Burnt Well rest area near Tonopah will receive new plumbing and updated restroom facilities and improved ramadas.

ADOT says rest area’s eastbound and westbound facilities both will be closed starting Monday. The work is expected to last into the summer.

Other rest areas are located 30 miles east of Quartzsite and near the California state line.
