PAMPLONA, Spain (AP) - Osasuna failed to finish a slew of scoring chances as it was held to a 0-0 draw by Valladolid at home in the Spanish league on Friday.
Osasuna’s Alvaro Cejudo drove the ball onto the crossbar in the fifth minute and his team squandered several long-range strikes before he was denied one-on-one by goalkeeper Jaime Jimenez in the 50th.
A stagnant Valladolid was limited to Victor Perez’s corner kick that curled off the bar also in the 50th and Javi Guerra’s effort saved by Andres Fernandez in the 83rd.
The result left Osasuna three points clear of the relegation zone and Valladolid just one point from danger before the rest of round 33 is played.
“It’s a point that doesn’t help us very much,” said Valladolid forward Oscar Gonzalez. “It was an ugly, strange game.”
Atletico Madrid leads the league one point ahead of Barcelona, which it eliminated from the Champions League on Wednesday. Atletico visits crosstown rival Getafe on Sunday after Barcelona plays at Granada on Saturday.
Real Madrid trails Atletico by three points before it hosts Almeria on Saturday.
