BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a commercial jet flying from Texas to North Carolina was diverted to Birmingham after a medical emergency on board.

Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1jy5xal) that the Airbus A-320, flying from Houston to Charlotte, N.C., landed at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport shortly before 7 a.m. Friday.

Authorities said the US Airways flight was diverted when a woman, who is seven months pregnant, experienced shortness of breath and began passing out. Medics were called to the airport and were ready to receive the passenger when the plane landed.

Airport spokeswoman Toni Bast confirmed that the passenger was taken to a local hospital.

The flight later departed Birmingham and resumed its trip.
