NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Television analyst Glenn “Chico” Resch says he is retiring from the New Jersey Devils broadcast booth after 18 years.
The 65-year-old Resch, an original Devils goalie, announced during the first intermission Friday night, when New Jersey hosted the New York Islanders, that Sunday will be his final game for MSG Network.
Resch has been in the booth since 1996 alongside Mike “Doc” Emrick and current play-by-play announcer Steve Cangialosi. He will call New Jersey’s season finale against Boston on Sunday with Cangialosi.
“I never thought of this as a profession because at the end of the day I’m talking about hockey, a sport that I love and have a tremendous amount of respect for,” Resch said in a statement.
Resch played for the Devils, New York Islanders, Colorado Rockies and Philadelphia Flyers in 14 NHL seasons. He had a record of 231-224-82 and won the Stanley Cup in 1980 with the Islanders.
