DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Officials say the new Dayton racino expected to open in October could lead to around 1,000 jobs for the region.

The Dayton Daily News (https://bit.ly/1sLcOIT ) reports that harness racing will begin Oct. 3 at the $125 million Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway. It’s currently being built on the 125-acre site of an old automotive plant in north Dayton.

The racino also will have at least 1,000 video slot machines, with the possibility of up to 1,500.

Gary Dewitt, vice president and general manager of the racino, said the 1,000 jobs include positions expected at the track itself and those expected through the development of new restaurants, hotels and other businesses near the site.

Dewitt says about one-third of the racino jobs are expected to be offered to Dayton residents.
