Bar owner’s sentence reduced from 100 to 75 years

HURON, S.D. (AP) - A recent ruling by the South Dakota Supreme Court has resulted in a slightly reduced sentence for a former Huron bar owner convicted of raping three girls after serving them alcohol.

KOKK radio reports (https://bit.ly/1hynVBD ) that Werner Fajardo (fa-HAHR’-doh) of Sioux Falls owned the El Cuervo bar in Huron. He was found guilty in 2012 of assaulting a 12-year-old girl and two 14-year-olds at the bar late last year

Beadle County States Attorney Mike Moore says three rape sentences against Fajardo were dropped to comply with the Supreme Court ruling, reducing Fajardo’s sentence from 100 years to 75 years. The ruling established that a defendant could not be sentenced on three of the crimes for the same act.

Fajardo’s hearing took place though video conference.
