BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say they’ve apprehended two suspects after a car chase through the Birmingham area, where they say the driver rammed two sheriff’s department vehicles at one point in the pursuit.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the chase began very early Friday morning, when deputies tried to stop a suspected stolen car.
They say the driver refused to stop and a pursuit began through north Birmingham, the Kinston and Woodlawn areas, and Irondale before the suspects were taken into custody.
Authorities say the driver, a 19-year-old Birmingham man, faces numerous charges that include first-degree assault, reckless driving and attempting to elude law officers.
Sheriff’s officials say the passenger, a 20-year-old Birmingham man, has 31 outstanding felony warrants with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
