Sen. Angus King, an Independent from Maine who more often than not votes Democrat and caucuses with the Democratic Party, said he’s now mulling a move to the right.
Mr. King, who currently serves on the Armed Services, Budget, Intelligence and Rules committees, may join the Republicans on key votes after the midterm elections, The Hill reported.
“I’ll make my decision at the time based on what I think is best for Maine,” Mr. King told The Hill, clarifying that his decision to switch depends on which party takes control of the Senate.
He already voted with the GOP this week to block the Paycheck Fairness Act, a core element of the Democratic Party’s campaign push. The 70-year-old senator said congressional colleagues might see more of the same from him.
His heads-up comes as many Senate races are heating up, with notable pollsters predicting big wins for the Republican Party. Some estimates have the GOP gaining six seats, which would give Republicans control of the chamber in 2015.
