Ready for Hillary, the independent group with a mission to entice former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to run for the White House in 2016, said it’s raised more than $1.7 million in the three-month time period that wrapped on March 31.

The New York Times reported that the group also said it’s brought on board 22,000 new donors.

The aim of Ready for Hillary — which isn’t affiliated with Mrs. Clinton — is to bring in enough grassroots support and online donations to show that she has the support needed to seek the White House. And given that Mrs. Clinton struggled in 2008 to obtain small donations from the online community, the news from Ready for Hillary is good.

The group said 98 percent of the contributions it reported for the January-through-March time frame were all for $100 or less, The Times said.

One of the former first lady’s donation bundlers said most of the bigger donors are holding out sending in any money, pending a formal announcement from Mrs. Clinton, The Times reported.
