WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Commissioners in Palm Beach County have voted to move forward with a plan to import and incinerate other counties’ trash.

A 4-to-3 vote Wednesday keeps the proposal alive, but the Solid Waste Authority governing board could still later reject it.

The authority says the county could make up to $45 million over eight years with the trash plan. A new $600 million waste-to-energy plant is set to open next year.

The Palm Beach Post reports the proposal has generated significant controversy over concerns about air pollution, increased traffic and wear-and-tear on the new facility.
