House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said she’s so intent on passing an amnesty package to help illegal immigrants that she’d even take the sacrificial dive and give up her chance to resume leadership duties in Congress.
“It’s the biggest thing that we can do and that’s why I’ve said to the Speaker, to the press, to these groups, I would rather pass [a] comprehensive reform bill than win the elections in November,” Mrs. Pelosi said, Politico reported.
So if Democrats don’t take back the House, then Mrs. Pelosi has no chance to take back the House Speaker spot — but she’s OK with that, she said, Breitbart reported.
“There’s nothing we could accomplish in winning that would be as big as passing immigration reform,” she said.
Politico also reported that Mrs. Pelosi has been taking a trip around the nation to promote an immigration overhaul that’s heavy on the amnesty idea, with the hope of winning enough political capital to push through a bill by June or July.
Meanwhile, Democratic colleagues say the time has grown tight to see success on an amnesty bill. Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Luis Gutierrez both say if amnesty doesn’t pass this year, it never will, at least under the president administration, Breitbart reported.
