Congress’ approval rating drops even lower, poll finds

Congress’ approval rating dipped 2 points in April down to 13 percent, a poll released Thursday said.

The Gallup poll found that the percentage of Americans who approve of Congress is even lower in April than in March, when it hovered at 15 percent. The approval rate is still slightly above the all-time low of 9 percent in November 2013.

The low approval rating could lead to voters having an anti-incumbent mindset when they go to the polls for the midterm elections later this year, the poll said. Midterm elections, however, are often more influenced by the public opinion of the president, so Congress’ approval may not play as much of a role.

Poll results are based on more than 1,000 telephone interviews with adults across the country between April 3 to 6. The margin of error is 4 percent.
