Law enforcement authorities in Florida issued an arrest warrant on Thursday for a man in his mid-20s who they believe is to blame for the tragic car crash that led to the death of one girl at a day care facility and the injuring of 14 other children.
They seek Robert Corchado and say he was driving the SUV that crashed into another car, which then flew into the Orlando day care facility on Wednesday, CNN reported.
Mr. Corchado’s Dodge Durango was discovered abandoned on a street three hours after the incident. Police received a tip that he was at Orlando International Airport and think he was trying to flee, CNN said.
He was driving a rented vehicle, CNN affiliate WESH reported.
The Wednesday afternoon collision sent 12 children and an adult to area hospitals for treatment. Others were treated at the scene. One child was actually pinned beneath the car that flew into the facility, a police spokesman said. One girl died at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando.
“It was tragic,” a nearby roof worker who witnessed the incident, Jeezy Jenkins, told the local media.
