NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - Federal authorities say a Mexican man is in custody for attempting to smuggle more than 8,000 pounds of marijuana into southern Arizona.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of Nogales referred a 30-year-old Nogales, Sonora, man for additional inspection of a tractor-trailer he was driving Wednesday.

After a narcotics detection dog alerted to the presence of drugs in the trailer, officers found 298 bales of marijuana worth more than $4 million.

The drugs and truck were seizure by officers. The driver was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. His name hasn’t been released.
