RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia corn producers plan to reduce their plantings slightly this year.
The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says corn plantings this year are expected to be 500,000 acres, down from 510,000 a year ago.
Producers expect no change to the 600,000 acres planted for soybeans. They also expect a 5 percent increase in acres used for cotton plantings and a 13 percent increase in peanut plantings.
The department says the size of winter wheat crops fell 9 percent to 290,000 acres.
