MOSCOW (AP) - Kazakh club Kairat Almaty says Luciano Spalletti will not be its next manager.
The team had said earlier Tuesday on its website that the 55-year-old Italian, who was fired by Zenit St. Petersburg last month, was in Almaty to sign an initial six-month contract with the club. Club spokesman Marlen Beisebaev said he could confirm the story when contacted by The Associated Press.
But Kairat said later Tuesday evening on its website that the announcement of Spalletti’s hiring was an April Fools’ Day joke.
