RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - More than 66,000 Black Hills Power customers could see rates rise this year.
The company says it needs to increase rates for the second consecutive year to comply with federal regulations.
The average customer would see rates rise by about 13 percent, or about $130 per year. The rate increases still need to be approved the Public Utilities Commission.
Black Hills Power tells the Rapid City Journal (https://bit.ly/1lAfGH0) that it’s looking to raise about $14.6 million in extra revenue each year.
Utility spokesman Vance Crocker says most of the new revenue would go toward replacing three coal-fired power plants. He says the three plants are no longer in compliance with new federal emission standards.
