Glenn Greenwald, the journalist who helped bring NSA leaker Edward Snowden’s messages to the public via the U.K. Guardian newspaper, is due to receive an award for courage from the University of Georgia.
He was nominated by Dorothy Parvaz, an Al Jazeera English editor who was the recipient of last year’s award, The Associated Press reported.
Mr. Greenwald, who is now the founder of First Look Media’s “The Intercept,” is known around the world for publishing Mr. Snowden’s leaked information about the National Security Agency. He’s been selected as this year’s winner of the southern college’s McGill Medal for Journalistic Courage, AP reported.
Mr. Greenwald was the first to report on the NSA’s telephone records collection operation that swept up millions of U.S. Verizon customers.
