CORBIN, Ky. (AP) - Former Stinking Creek Volunteer Fire Chief Jesse Jaynes has been found competent to stand trial in the fatal shooting of a man investigators believe had a romantic relationship with Jaynes’ wife.

The Times-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1iVHAJS) both Jesse Jaynes and wife Angela Jaynes face murder charges in the shooting death of 35-year-old James Cox, a father of four. Cox was found with two gunshot wounds on the Jaynes’ property two days after Christmas in 2012.

Jesse Jaynes appeared in Knox County Circuit Court on Friday. The Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center’s Timothy Allen testified that Jaynes was able to appreciate the nature and the consequences of the proceedings against him.

Angela Jaynes has a competency hearing on Thursday. Trial is scheduled for April 14.

Both remain jailed under $100,000 cash bonds each.
