Federal agents are actively seeking out a former Army recruit they believe is plotting a “Fort Hood-inspired jihad against U.S. soldiers,” they said.
The FBI sent out an alert for a man they identified as Booker, based on statements his friends made that he was intending “to commit jihad,” Fox News reported. The suspect also goes by Muhammad Abdullah Hassan.
He was recruited in February into the U.S. Army in Kansas City, Mo., and was supposed to have reported for duty at basic training on April 7, agents said. But after authorities learned of his alleged jihad, they discharged him, Fox News reported. Now both the FBI and the 902nd Military Intelligence Group at Fort Leavenworth are seeking his location.
The FBI alert was distributed throughout the U.S. Marine Corps and sent to the Kansas City Police Department. It’s titled “Planned Fort Hood-inspired Jihad against US Soldiers by Army Recruit,” and it was sent out to “inform and protect officers who may encounter this individual or others exhibiting the same aspirations.”
The Fort Hood shooting occurred on Nov. 5, 2009. Then, U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Hasan killed 13 people and wounded dozens, while reportedly screaming “Alluha Akabar.” He was sentenced to death in August.
