HUNTERS HOLLOW, Ky. (AP) - A Bullitt County sewage facility is discharging about 400,000 gallons of raw sewage a day into an unnamed tributary of Brook Run as officials look for solutions.

The Courier-Journal reports (https://cjky.it/1dNmmib ) the spill began on Saturday evening after a weld broke around a steel pipe and then a wall collapsed under pressure.

Dick Brown is a spokesman for the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet. He said the plant’s owners, Bullitt Utilities Inc. of Louisville, are considering options to control the spill. They include installing a temporary filtration system that would clean water coming into the plant. That system could be installed by Wednesday.

Bullitt County Sanitation Department Director Jerry Kennedy said the sewage could travel as far as the Salt River. Residents are asked to stay away from the tributary.
