CNN’s Michael Smerconish thinks he may have found a “silver lining” to missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 and the 239 passengers who perished: more regulations.

“Is there potentially a silver lining in all of this, that there will be a worldwide cause of action to clean up the oceans and for there to be less polluting, greater fines, more regulation?” CNN’s Michael Smerconish asked during a segment on the missing flight, The Blaze reported.

“I think so. That’s something all of us are hoping for. This is drawing attention to something that is largely an invisible issue for most people,” LiveScience.com editor Marc Lallanilla replied. “In fact, the Indian Ocean garbage patch wasn’t discovered until 2010 by groups going across the ocean to see if there was a garbage patch there. Similar to a fairly well known garbage patch called the ’Great Pacific’ garbage patch.”

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 has been missing for over three weeks now. Currently, 10 aircraft and nine ships are searching a 46,000-square-mile search zone for any missing wreckage, CNN reported.
