MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - Alysha Clark won’t return to Middle Tennessee as an assistant women’s basketball coach next season in order to concentrate on her WNBA playing career.

Middle Tennessee coach Rick Insell announced Clark’s pending departure Tuesday.

Clark said in a statement that “when Coach Insell hired me, we knew the crossroad of playing in the WNBA and coaching would have to be faced at some point.”

The 26-year-old Clark is a former star player at Middle Tennessee who was an Associated Press All-America second-team selection in 2010. She joined Middle Tennessee’s staff this season and helped the Blue Raiders go 29-5 and win the Conference USA regular-season and tournament titles.

Clark averaged 4.0 points and 2.5 rebounds with the Seattle Storm last season.
